VisX Laser

The VisX Excimer laser is a broad-beam laser which is 1-6 microns thick. This laser ablates corneal tissue, which alters the shape of the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. This laser can be used for Conventional or CustomVue LASIK.

Conventional LASIK

Your prescription is measured in units called diopters. Conventional LASIK uses the measurements obtained by a phoropter which is an optical instrument containing many lenses which is used to determine the power of your glasses or refractive error (when we ask, "Which is better one or two?"). A phoropter measures your prescription to the nearest 1/4 (0.25) diopter.

CustomVue LASIK

Your cornea is like your fingerprint; no two are alike. With CustomVue LASIK, a customized map is created for each eye. This data allows for treatment of small imperfections in the eye that can have a significant impact on your quality of vision.

A Wavefront Analyzer or Wavescan is used to measure your eyes to determine your prescription to the nearest 1/100 of a diopter.

The benefits of CustomVue LASIK include:

  • Corrects your refractive error more precisely than conventional LASIK
  • Offers the potential for better vision than with contact lenses or glasses
  • Provides improved night vision and less incidence of glare and halos
  • More suitable for those requiring higher levels of precision and treatment accuracy than what Conventional LASIK may provide
